About Glyn Willoughby

Taught in state community schools for 35 years. Having been Head of Science in three different schools, Glyn moved to Heathside School and following a period as Deputy Head teacher, became Principal in 1989. As Principal, Glyn has presided over the growth of the school from having only 480 students to becoming the high-performing and extremely popular specialist college that it is today. Having completed 19 highly successful years as Principal, Glyn has now retired in order to invest more time on continuing his involvement with different projects within the community.

His special interest is in involving young people in leading action research projects involving positive change. The main focus of Glyn's work is in developing healthy communities and sustainable school improvement through collaborative and positive, strength-based strategies that involve the entire school and its local community.

Over the last 4 years, Glyn has been delighted to be able to take students and staff to Cleveland, Ohio and also Chicago in order to take part in international conferences.

Glyn has published in Managing Schools Today, the AI Practitioner and Educational Management Administration & Leadership.

Glyn completed his undergraduate studies in Physical Sciences in the School of Chemical Physics at the University of Surrey. He has continued his studies at Surrey University by taking first a Masters degree and then successfully completing the Doctorate in Education.
