this presentation, Chris will raise a number of problematic and challenging issues affecting School Governance and discuss potential responses. Key issues will include:
- A critical appraisal of the role of the chair and the role of the clerk;
- Stakeholder responsibility for the conduct of schools; Accountability of head teacher performance management;
- Accountability to stakeholders and maintaining the strategic focus;
- Land-grabbing by multi-academy trusts;
- The tyranny of compliance and the absence of any record of who school governors in England are.

In her presentation Ruth will examine a related set of issues including:
- Governor recruitment, induction and training;
- Governing body size and the paying of governors,
- How can schools get the most out of Governors;
- How can Governors get to know their school,
- Working with, SLTs, Teachers, Support Staff, Pupils/Students, Parents and the wider community at shaping and sustaining the vision and ethos of the school and why it’s important,
- And why Ofsted shouldn’t be at the top of our agendas.
